The Borrowers

I've lost an earring and I suspect Borrowers. That's the only logical explanation. I took my earrings out when I went to bed and now I can only find one. The other is probably being used as a chandelier in a Borrower's dining hall. Maybe there is an upcoming dinner party that "Beans" aren't invited to. That's what Borrowers call us humans, "Beans".

If you are unaware of the existence of Borrowers, you are doomed to wonder over your missing possessions. Ever since I saw the 1997 movie "The Borrowers," all lost items were explained. Hair clips, socks, nuts and screws, were borrowed. There's something comforting about knowing that there are Borrowers. I no longer need rack my brains or drive myself crazy looking for some lost trinket. It was borrowed.

Now, Borrowers aren't bad little people. They never steal, they only utilize the random stuff you have laying around. The thing you are missing will turn up one day when you least expect it.

The movie  is based on Mary Norton's children's novels, a series that explores the big world of the little people. I, unfortunately, have not read them yet, but I want to! I'm going to see if the OU library has any of them.

Now here's a little tidbit for you. Remember the little boy who played Peagreen Clock, Arriety's little brother?

  Look familiar? No?

You sure?

How about now?

Our favorite bad boy Tom Felton. He was a ginger at one point.

"The Borrowers" movie includes several other British actors that are also in the Harry Potter movies. I'll let you watch the movie and see if you can spot the rest.

One day I bet the Borrowers will return my earring. In the mean time, I'll read up on them and their adventures.

  1. Those sneaky little miscreants attack again. Oh, the masses of paper scraps, silverware, socks, and hair pins they've stolen from me to make their futons and laundry chutes. Its only appropriate that our own Draco Malfoy should be an honorary borrower even after 10 years.
